| About: The Great Gatsby is written by the F. Scott Fitzgerald, an American author. Its first publication was on April 10, 1925. The novel describes the moral derangement caused in American society due to World War I. The Americans were enjoying the economic boom in 1920 thus dwelling into corruption. In addition to the chaos, the ban was removed from the production and sale of alcohol, which ultimately gave ample opportunities to the people dealing in this business to earn millions of dollars. The raise in income of people involved in the alcohol business increased the filthy crimes taking place in the country. The story covers the love triangles between different people and their slavish behavior towards materialism. It also shows the increasing trend of extra marital affairs. Initially it was not a great seller but after the great depression of World War 2 it got a lot of attention and ended up being a very profitable book. It is now a cornerstone in American literature and ranked as number 2 on 100 best novels of the 20th century. The novel had many film, TV, opera and radio adaptations as well. | ||||||
