| About: The catcher in the Rye has been written by J.D Salinger in 1951. The novel covers the emotional aspects of teenage ambiguity, disaffection, sexuality, angst, rebellion and dignity. The leading character of the novel is Holden Caulfields, who is dismissed from a college named Pency Prep in Pennsylvania due to his criticism on the faculty and students on being superficial. He moves to New York where he runs into his sister with whom he shares his being a savior of children who play near the brink of the rye field, from being exposed to adulthood. There, he meets his English teacher, Mr. Antolini, where Holden's ease is destroyed when he feels Mr. Antolini moving his hand over Holden head in a fluttering way. It is upon the reader if he thinks that Mr. Antolini was being sexual in his act or not. Holden thinks of moving to west but cancels as his sister asserts to go with him. The story revolves around further such adolescence experiences of Holden. The novel has been of one of the best sellers of 20th century with its selling statistics of 250,000 each year. |
