About: The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy is a series of science fiction novels written by Douglas Adams. Adam also had the series on radio with the same name and this novel is an adaptation of it. It was published on October 12, 1979 in London. The story is based around the lead characters, Arthur and his friend Ford Perfect. The story begins with contractors demolishing Arthur's house. While Arthur tries to stop them, his friend Ford shows up and tells him that he belong to some other planet named Betelgeuse and he got the news that the Vogons, an alien race, is going to demolish Earth. In order to escape from the Vogons, they both hitch a lift on one of their ships. They are discovered and so they are tortured and thrown out into space. A Gold ship rescues them and takes them to the president of the galaxy who is hunting for the grand planet of Margrathea. The story then continues to describe their adventure throughout the galaxy. The novel had a film adaptation and was a number one according to Sunday times.
